  • How MobiLoud Helped Bottle Stop Build an App That Pays for Itself

How MobiLoud Helped Bottle Stop Build an App That Pays for Itself

Bottle Stop, an Australian online alcohol retailer, moved to Shopify to simplify the technical side of their operations. By migrating their website to another platform, their mobile app no longer worked.

They needed a new way to build and maintain their app, that worked with Shopify and that would allow them to keep all the features of their website, without a huge level of cost or complexity.

    They found MobiLoud.

    The Challenge

Bottle Stop’s search for a new way to build an app was all about simplifying their tech stack.

Their previous setup was effective, but it was sapping at their profit margins.

Damien Smith, the company’s CTO said:

“Our eCommerce stack was fully custom, very expensive to run and maintain. We needed internal developers. The time to release anything was very long and our business works on very small margins.”

When they moved the website to Shopify, they first looked at low-code and no-code app builders made for Shopify. They found that these were expensive for what they needed to do, and just too limiting.

They wouldn’t be able to offer everything in the app that they did on their website – in particular, their loyalty program. All the Shopify app builders they looked at wouldn’t be able to recreate the user experience from their loyalty program in the app.

“We are using Yotpo for the loyalty program and it works great. It’s a points based system, it has widgets in the checkout. So you can see your points and redeem your points through the checkout. With these solutions, we would need to custom build the whole loyalty program in the app, which would then be delayed behind the website.”

    The Solution

Damien and the team found a better solution; MobiLoud.

Similar to their previous app, MobiLoud let them simply convert their website into apps, which would be fully synchronized with the website, and retain all the features from their website.

Most importantly, MobiLoud works with Shopify (as well as any other website platform or tech stack). Damien was able to see examples from numerous other high-revenue eCommerce brands, many also using Shopify, who used MobiLoud to successfully build mobile apps.

MobiLoud allowed them to relaunch an excellent app experience, while successfully simplifying operations and saving money compared to the expensive and complicated tech stack they had earlier.

They’ve now eliminated all their app overhead, and spend zero time on app maintenance.

    Results

Bottle Stop’s app users score positively on all the key metrics that an eCommerce store looks for.

“We’re seeing that the customers who do use the app are more engaged, they’re spending more time on site, they’re spending more per transaction, they’re spending more overall. The app is paying for itself.”

On the operational side, Damien loves that whatever they do on the website, they can immediately roll out on the app at the same time. He’s not tied up by the limitations of other Shopify app builders.

“The fact that we can roll out quite complex solutions and updates to improve our experience for customers on the website, and that’s immediately in the app, that’s priceless. That’s amazing.”

The other element that’s really paying off for them is the addition of mobile push notifications, and how effective they’ve been at holding on to their customers’ attention.

“Push notifications give us a way to get in front of high-value customers within a walled environment. When you’re on a browser you’re jumping between websites, you can quickly lose your focus and you’re off somewhere else. When we send a push notification, they’re in the app, they’re in a walled environment and we have their attention captured.”

Why MobiLoud is the Best No-Code Mobile App Solution for Shopify Websites

More than 2,000 businesses have used MobiLoud to build their mobile apps, including many successful Shopify brands.

Damien, like many others, found that traditional DIY, no-code app builders made specifically for Shopify tend to be inflexible, not letting you do all the same things you do on your website, and have both direct and indirect costs that add up.

“If someone is looking at some other low code, no code type app builder, they would need to look at the total cost of maintenance, development, delays for new features, roll out, and consider all of that.”

MobiLoud is the most straightforward, yet most flexible way to build an app for your Shopify store, without spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on developers.

Not only do we handle the whole app build for you, we submit your apps to the app stores, and handle technical maintenance and updates after launch, saving you thousands in ongoing costs and letting you keep your focus solely on your website.

  • GameLoot Transformed Their Mobile User Experience by Launching a Mobile App

GameLoot Transformed Their Mobile User Experience by Launching a Mobile App

With the vast majority of GameLoot’s traffic coming on mobile, there’s nothing more important to them than the mobile user experience.

Their smartphone users needed a better way to navigate their store. Their analysis, and the feedback they were getting from real users, was that they needed an app. But as a bootstrapped company, Gameloot didn’t have the budget to go all out and build a mobile development team.

Instead, they found MobiLoud, which was the perfect solution. MobiLoud let them convert their existing website to an app, with small changes that went a long way to improve mobile UX.

We talked to GameLoot’s co-founder about their experience, why they needed an app, and how MobiLoud helped them launch an app, grow their brand and streamline the shopping experience for GameLoot customers.

    Why GameLoot Needed an App

For some time, GameLoot’s customers had been asking about an app. The Indian market is app-centric, and consumers are used to using apps for all kinds of products and services.

“It’s become an app world in India, there’s an app for everything, literally everything. You have to go to a doctor, you can install an app of a doctor and book an appointment, that person gets a notification and he’ll approve the appointment via the app.”

Their need for an app went deeper than this, however.

When GameLoot started, they dealt exclusively with PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo products (games and consoles).

But as they grew, they started adding more product categories, as well as complementary services.

Today, they sell new and pre-owned gaming consoles, games, electronics, smart phones, PCs and laptops, digital products, as well as running a repair service.

With all these elements to their business – buy, sell, repair, plus multiple product categories – mobile users were getting confused.

“It becomes more user friendly for the customer. If you want to sell something, they can just click on the sell button in the app and go to the sell category. And if they want to buy something, they can go straight to the buy category. Before the app, it was a bit confusing. When we saw the tab menu in the app, I realized it becomes very easy for customers to choose between ‘buy’, ‘sell’, ‘repair’”.

Just a small change in the app would make the user experience much more straightforward. And with 70-80% of their traffic coming on mobile, a small improvement could have a huge positive impact.

    The Challenge

As mentioned earlier, GameLoot is a bootstrapped company, with no outside funding.

Profitability is important to them, and they don’t have the means to go out and spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on a custom mobile app.

Initial research into app development solutions showed that if they went the custom route, not only would it mean incurring a huge cost, but they wouldn’t see their app for a long time.

“The development time was very long. We were told it will take a minimum of six months just to get the app ready for a demo, maybe, and to go live it will take eight to ten months.”

There were cheaper options, but dealing with cheaper developers meant they wouldn’t get ongoing support for the app, or that it wouldn’t be compatible with their business.

“If you see what kind of business we do, it’s very complex. It’s not a straightforward eCommerce website, where you just list products and start selling. We have a buy section. We have a sell section. We have a repair section.”

“I was also trying to get in touch with some freelancers, where they could do it for us for a one-time cost. But I realized an app is something which requires support on a monthly basis, on a weekly basis.”

    The Solution

GameLoot’s co-founder was turned on to another eCommerce business, who had built an app that was fully integrated and synchronized with their website.

He did some searching to find a company that could do this for them, within their budget and time constraints.

This search brought him to MobiLoud. He soon discovered that MobiLoud could do exactly what they needed.

They would be able to create an app from their existing website, with the small touches like a tab menu that would go a long way.

Best of all, it wouldn’t take 8-10 months to launch, and wouldn’t cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.

They could continue to manage everything from their website, without hiring mobile app developers or making wholesale changes to their business.

The Result: Hundreds of New App Users Each Day

Since making the decision to launch an app, GameLoot has seen a profoundly positive impact on their business.

Mobile users have taken to the app in large numbers, validating their assumption that many customers would prefer to use an app.

“The response has been really good. We have seen a spike in traffic and sales. We have around 20,000 downloads in one month. Daily we’re getting around 700 new users. By our calculations, we should touch 100,000 in the next three months.”

And from the snapshot provided by their app store reviews, these users are more than happy with the user experience on the app.

    __wf_reserved_inherit

On top of these metrics, they’re seeing many higher-level benefits of having an app. Having an app has provided more authority for their brand, and made it easier for them to grow through referrals and word-of-mouth.

“It’s easier when you can tell someone, just download the app called GameLoot. You don’t have to remember the domain name, you don’t have to go to Google and look for the right website. You just need to know the brand name and then just go to the app store and search for it.”

Another huge benefit has been access to push notifications. Push has given them a far more effective communication channel, which resonates more with their target audience.

“A push notification is something people will not miss. When we send SMS, a lot of numbers are blocked in India. Emails go in the spam folder, or Gmail has a promotion folder, which is kind of hidden.”

“If you look at our target group of 18 to 25 year olds, they prefer push notifications. We already got feedback from a customer. We have a section on our website which says notify me, where you put an email on the product which is out of stock, and once it’s in stock, you get an email. Customers were like, why are you sending me an email? I don’t check my emails, just notify me via the app.”

Get All the Benefits of an App, With None of the Risk

By launching an app you can:

    • Improve your mobile user experience.
    • Enter the app stores, adding a new user acquisition channel and building authority and trust for your brand.
    • Get access to super-effective communication tools like push notifications.

Many companies think the cost, time investment and complexity to build and maintain an app is an insurmountable hurdle.

But with MobiLoud, as long as you have a fast, responsive and mobile-friendly website, you can launch your own app for a minor cost, and with little to no risk.

MobiLoud converts your existing website into an app, which is all that most eCommerce businesses need.

You don’t need to reinvent the wheel when you launch an app. Just being able to package your website as an app, get into the app stores and start using native push notifications is enough to boost your revenue and deliver a positive ROI.

The best part is that it takes almost no work to maintain – your apps update automatically with your website, and you can use your existing web development team to manage your apps.

“My IT guy is very happy. It’s easy for him to manage because he is a CSS guy. He did a lot of changes in the app for us, it was very easy for him to understand the whole layout and how to do things in the app.”

“The good thing about MobiLoud is that even if you are doing a small change on your website, it immediately reflects on the app. So we don’t have to go through the whole process of submitting a build and then waiting for the build to go live. I just did a minor change on the website and it’s already reflected on the app. It could be anything, it could be a design change, a feature or anything.”

GameLoot is one of over 2,000 businesses who realized how easy it is to build and maintain high-quality mobile apps with MobiLoud.

  • Pharmazone Launched an App in Two Weeks (With 15x More Revenue Per User Than Their Website)

Pharmazone Launched an App in Two Weeks (With 15x More Revenue Per User Than Their Website)

In 30 years of operation, a business has to constantly evolve. For Kuwait-based brand Pharmazone, that meant diving first into ecommerce, then into mobile commerce.

Having just gotten comfortable with most of their business moving online, Covid brought another shift, as mobile became standard.

MobiLoud helped their brand not only stay relevant, but become a force in their market – while fully converting their Shopify site into a high-performance mobile app in just two weeks.

    Snapshot

    Vertical: Retail pharmacy & health

    PlatformShopify

    Key Metrics:

    • 63% of online revenue comes through the app
    • 7x higher conversion rate in the app
    • App users shop 5x as often, spend 40% longer in each session
    • App drives 15x more revenue per user
    • Push notifications convert at 6.43% (22% for abandoned cart notifications)

    Business Impact:

    • Launched in 2 weeks
    • Ranks consistently in the top 3-5 pharmacy apps in Kuwait
    • A direct line to more than 70,000 active users
    • Seamless integration & sync with their website

“We’ve had a website for the past eight years and the suite of services and languages to develop an application we felt was not up to par. It was really a no-brainer to go with MobiLoud to get us live with the same integrations and all the apps that we use within Shopify.”
    – Ahmed Yousef, Director of Ecommerce

    The Roadblock

Pharmazone has 65 retail locations across Kuwait. And while their ecommerce presence was doing well, they were missing out by not having an app (especially in the Middle East, where many consumers exclusively use apps).

But their website was not exactly standard. They had a fairly complex tech stack to try and replicate. An ERP system for real-time inventory management, live updates on stock status, account delivery, a 24/7 pharmacist call center.

And they didn’t want to turn into a tech company with a bloated dev team to get it done.

    Why They Chose MobiLoud

Like any product-focused business, Pharmazone had the challenge of staying on the cutting edge technically, with minimal dev resources.

MobiLoud was the best solution available. We let them fully convert their website and all its features into a mobile app, without costly and time-consuming custom development.

“Shopify is already very mobile responsive and well structured, so using MobiLoud to just mirror our Shopify site was for me the best option in terms of money and time.”

    __wf_reserved_inherit

    Launch & Results

In theory, MobiLoud sounded great. But Pharmazone’s board was skeptical it could be done.

“No one really believed that we were going to have an app in under a month, with the setup that we had to do initially. But within just two weeks, it was done.”

It surprised everyone how easy it was. Especially as they didn’t have to make any sacrifices with the feature set in their app.

And importantly, MobiLoud helped them cross off a major product milestone that had been on their wishlist for some time.

“Having a quick application that is international and doesn’t crash and is integrated with our system was a very big challenge that is now behind us.”

Since launching, the mobile app has been transformative for their business.

    • Over 60% of their online revenue coming through the app
    • 7x higher conversion rate vs mobile web
    • 7x higher AOV
    • 5x more sessions, 40% longer sessions
    • 15x revenue per user

Push notifications alone have been a major revenue driver. Push is converting at 6.43%, driving 4x higher revenue per user than email. And abandoned cart notifications convert at a whopping 22%, recovering five figures in would-be lost revenue each month.

    The Takeaway

Many brands think a full-featured, high-performance mobile app is out of reach unless you have a deep dev team or a huge budget to spend.

    Pharmazone proved otherwise.

“We’ve had a website for the past eight years and the suite of services and languages to develop an application we felt was not up to par. It was really a no-brainer to go with MobiLoud to get us live with the same integrations and all the apps that we use within Shopify.”

For brands with high mobile traffic (especially in app-first markets like the Middle East), there’s no reason not to have your app.

It’s easy, affordable – and you don’t need to cut any key features from your website to do it.

MobiLoud turns your existing website into a powerful mobile app, with no lift from your team, and little to no work to maintain.
