Poems and Power Drives Strong Engagement Through a New Mobile Channel

Chelsie Diane founded Poems and Power, an international women’s organization teaching poetry and women’s studies classes to students worldwide.

After growing rapidly through word-of-mouth and building an engaged student base, she was looking for a solution that would give her students on-the-go access to her entire library of classes on mobile, without requiring constant computer logins.

Her customers were asking for an app. MobiLoud helped her give it to them.

    • Enhanced the student experience and increased engagement with push notifications.

    The Roadblock

Chelsie’s membership platform, Poems and Power, had a devoted user base – an engaged international community who wanted to watch classes during their daily routines, whether commuting, traveling, or simply away from their computers.

Yet the friction involved in accessing the platform via the web presented a potential issue. It wasn’t just guesswork, either. Chelsie’s customers were literally asking for an app.

The issue? Creating an app for her lean, independent business was not exactly straightforward. She needed a partner that would fit within their business model.

    Why They Chose MobiLoud

What stood out was MobiLoud’s ability to convert Chelsie’s existing Squarespace website into a fully functional app, without creating new work for her team.

She could continue managing content in one place (her website), while the app automatically synced up.

    This meant:

    • No hiring expensive mobile developers
    • No juggling multiple platforms
    • Giving her users the choice to engage with content wherever they want

With hundreds of requests for a mobile app from Chelsie’s students, she needed a partner who could help her easily navigate the technical challenges of launching an app, while maintaining a strong user experience that measured up to expectations.

    Launch & Results

MobiLoud converted Chelsie’s Squarespace membership site into iOS and Android apps that seamlessly delivered her video classes to students’ phones.

Within the first few weeks of launch, hundreds of students downloaded the app, with that number growing to thousands as promotion increased.

The app has become a home for Poems and Power’s most engaged students:

    • Nearly 1000 actively engaged users on the app
    • A huge 34 minutes average engagement time showing deep content consumption
    • An average of 4 sessions per month from app users
    • Average ~10 minutes per session

This despite casual promotion of the app thus far. Chelsie has found every mention of the app drives downloads, with minimal persuasion required.

“Everytime I talk about the app, I get more users.”

Students from all over the world are using the app. The combination of a frictionless mobile channel, with innovative use of push notifications to prompt users to open the app and study, is making for a strong engagement lift – which is sure to lead to stronger membership retention as well.

    The Takeaway

For membership-based education businesses with international audiences, mobile accessibility is essential.

Students today expect to learn on their own terms, whether that’s during their morning commute or while traveling abroad.

Yet not many businesses have the resources to build (and manage) a fully custom app, separate to their website.

MobiLoud enables organizations like Poems and Power to meet their students where they are, without creating additional operational burden. With automatic sync between website and app, you maintain one platform while serving students across all channels.

The Hunting Lease Achieves 60% YoY Growth and Low Churn with a Turn-Key Experience

The Hunting Lease started as many mobile-first businesses do – with an expensive, hard-coded native app that required going through developers for every small change.

After switching to a Squarespace-based approach with MobiLoud, they’ve transformed into a scalable, multi-market platform that serves hunting and fishing properties across 20+ states with minimal operational overhead.

“Being able to convert this Squarespace website into a mobile application has really transformed the way that we do business.”

    The Roadblock

Like many founders, Braxton Huggins initially thought he needed a fully custom native app built from scratch by specialized developers.

His first MVP was a hard-coded app, and it tied him down completely.

“I needed to go through my developer whenever I wanted to make changes or modifications to the app, which was a laborious process.”

As a solo founder, without a large development team, this approach was both expensive and limiting.

His hunting property marketplace needed to be agile, constantly updating with new properties, seasonal changes, and market expansions. The native app approach made simple updates feel like major projects, severely limiting their ability to scale and compete effectively.

The solution was to switch to a web-based platform, using Squarespace. This made managing the platform significantly easier for Braxton, but required him to find a new solution for the mobile app.

    Why They Chose MobiLoud

MobiLoud was the ideal partner for what Braxton wanted to do. We gave him an easy way to transform what he built on Squarespace to a native experience, and full support with all the tertiary elements of launching and running an app.

“Me being a solo founder, I needed somebody that could provide that end-to-end kind of turn-key experience. Helping the app get set up, submitting it to the app stores, going through the process of getting it live.”

Other services Braxton looked at would just hand him a mobile app and leave the rest to him. He didn’t have the bandwidth for that.

That was ultimately the sealing factor for going with MobiLoud.

    Launch & Results

MobiLoud helped Braxton relaunch the Hunting Lease App, which already had a significant number of downloads when he made the decision to re-do the app.

Less than a year after launching, they had more than triple the number of downloads.

Fast forward three years later, and the app (and the business) is going strong. The business’ subscriptions are growing over 60% YoY, and they maintain a low churn rate, leading to an impressive $110 average LTV.

The app plays a big part in that, providing a more convenient way for subscribers to interact and consume content.

Push notifications have a core role in the app’s engagement and retention strategy, with a strong base of subscribers and a 24% click through rate, helping to reactivate many churned users.

Also notable is the ROI. By being able to build and iterate on Squarespace, Braxton keeps costs down, saving a large sum compared to what it would have cost for a native platform.

“I can go and spend $30, $40, $50 on a plugin that’s already built to be responsive. That same widget, created by a developer, would cost thousands to do. So the cost-benefit, I haven’t spent more than a couple of thousand dollars adding features to the application, where if I were to rebuild it natively it would be tens of thousands.”

Thanks to MobiLoud, he’s been able to build and expand his competitive advantage, and turn a simple idea into a profitable business.

    The Takeaway

For solo founders and small teams, MobiLoud bridges the gap between needing a native mobile presence and having the resources for complex native development.

Braxton’s decision to operate his business through an easy, no-code web platform, while letting MobiLoud handle the mobile side, saved him tens of thousands at least.

It’s also provided the foundation for him to build a profitable, sustainable, subscription business.
